A surprise day in Switzerland

When we were in Switzerland this Summer my mum surprised us with a fun day out, filled with lovely activities and visits.
We drove through beautiful hills, saw an exhibition of paper art, visited a majestic priory, had an amazing lunch with at least 15 different vegetables, and even went to a museum that particularly pleased my favourite plane geek in the world.

It was a truly lovely day out!

Pain et chocolat

It's only when I moved away from Switzerland that I discovered that some people don't eat bread and chocolate together. Where I'm from it's the staple afternoon/morning tea. Kids love it. Adults too. It's the basic snack.
:-)

Over the past few years I found out that a lot of people from other areas of the world find it rather strange to just pop a piece of chocolate on a piece of bread and to eat it all. But that's not going to keep me from enjoying this super simple and super yummy snack from time to time. Especially not with delicious Swiss chocolate brought back from my recent visit!

Fondue by the lake

One of the best things to do over here in our part of Switzerland when the weather is nice, is to go and have fondue by the lake in the early evening... the light is truly amazing and the combination of the beautifully clear water, the vineyards, and the alps in the background makes it the perfect spot for a family evening.

Last night we even had a little friend come by to taste some of our bread...

Photos are from all of us. Dad's camera kept going from one person to another.

Holidays

Hi everyone!
It's been slightly quiet here lately, as we've been enjoying a wonderful holiday with family and friends in Switzerland. We've been skiing a bit, eating lots, and having a beautiful time all together.
Earlier this week we spent an afternoon in a picture-perfect scenery in the alps. It was wonderful to climb up to see the sun, as
everywhere else on the plateau, things looked more like... this.

This time last year...

... we were in Switzerland.

I really wish I could be there again right now.
Hopefully it won't be too long until we are back.

Happy New Year!

Here is the little creation that resulted of last night's celebrations and lilla a's challenge.

I wish you all a delightful 2011, and (just like last year) will suggest the following soundtrack to put a smile on your face (I personally play it extra loud and it makes me giggle... I love it!).

In the alps...

Went skiing and snowboarding in the sun today. It was fantastic!

P.S. Doesn't my brother's iPhone 4 take excellent photos?

Chutes du Rhin

Ok, one more post about our short holiday in Switzerland.

I took Mart (who is a fervent fan of fast flowing water) to see the Rhine Falls, close to Schaffhausen. It was a wonderfully sunny day, and there was LOTS of water gushing past (about 726 cubic meters per second, actually) - we had a great time!
We took several little boats across the river and to the rock that valiantly stands right in the middle of the falls... Now; we've figured, in the course of our different Swiss outdoors activities, that Mart isn't a huge fan of heights... well... it's become clear that I'm not great friends with tons of water coming in my direction while sitting in a little boat...! I could so see it tipping over and us having to swim for our life whilst trying to keep the camera out of the water... hahaha! :-)

Sorry, I know the video is of pretty poor quality... it's just so that you can appreciate the hugeness of it all!
And can you sense how scared I was to drop my iPhone...? ;-)
