A tiny bit of Los Angeles

After Boston and the East Coast I flew to L.A. where I met Mart. It was a super short stopover; we just stayed the night in an airport hotel and whizzed to Manhattan beach and back before catching our onward flight.

USA 2013 | Mount Rainier National Park

We had planned to go hiking in the Mount Rainier National Park on our way back up to Seattle from Portland. This, however, was before we realised what the weather would be like on that day. While the low cloud didn't allow us to see the imposing mountain other than on the model in the visitor's center (and did make us renounce our original plans to explore on foot for a few hours), the cold rain and sad weather didn't keep us from getting out of the car on numerous occasions to marvel at the amount of snow that was still left there in the middle of summer. We also spotted some local wildlife and a frozen, steaming lake, which we thought was pretty darn cool.

USA 2013 | Portland, Oregon

We spent two beautiful days in Portland. Time went by so fast; there was so much to see, do, and eat!
We really loved it there... the books, the donuts, the aerial tram, the bridges, the amazing boutiques, markets, and restaurants... we would  gladly have stayed longer!

USA 2013 | Driving to Portland

Driving down to Portland, we saw truly beautiful countryside. It contrasted quite strongly with the crazy roads that met us when we got into the city.

USA 2013 | Astoria, Oregon

After spending a beautiful week in Seattle we started driving South into Oregon. We stopped for the night right after crossing the state border, in Astoria. There we marveled at the incredible bridge we had just crossed (and which we could see from our hotel room) and had the most delicious burger at Fort George Public House.
