May thirty-first, two thousand eleven

I can't believe it's almost June already. May just flew by!

This number was found in the streets of Rome, a few years ago.

10 things about me today

1. I ate our first balcony-grown strawberries of the year.
2. I made Sarah's orange cake again. It's still in the oven.
3. I'm super proud of my mum, who has been teaching and exhibiting all over Europe recently.
4. I started this list yesterday but got distracted, so I'm finishing it today.
5. I spend way too much time helping my smurfs get a better village on the iPad.
6. I love warm, sunny weather like we've had today.
7. I've been (thanks to Mart) listening to a whole lot of 'mash-ups' (for cool examples, see here and here).
8. I like sweets better than savoury stuff.
9. I should start reading a new book.
10. For the long weekend ahead, I wish we could go back to the second house from the left on the photo below...

Mart got one of these very cool watches today.

Never Let Me Go

Saw this movie on Monday.
It was beautiful, quite strange, and sad... and it made me extremely thankful for the life I live and so terribly in love.
I would most definitely recommend it.

If you want to go and see it, please don't watch the trailer first - the whole story is in there and I think it would kind of ruin the freshness of it all. When we went we had pretty much no idea of what we were going to see; and it was just perfect that way!

All photos are screenshots from the trailer (which I only watched after seeing the movie! :-)

Melon - basil

Not the most successful juice so far. Probably because the melon was a bit too ripe.
:-)
But definitely a pretty colour!

Little city creatures

Remember my collection of little city creatures?
I found these three in Stockholm.
Pretty cute, eh?

Carrot - orange - ginger

I added a tiny bit of vanilla sugar and lime juice to the main fruits in this one; it was deee-lish!

More facets

These little ones never arrived to their destination. It's the first time something I send through the Dutch post gets lost... or at least the first time I know about it.
Bummer!

But anyways, I made more earrings today with some new colours I bought recently, and I'm going to try sending them to Denmark again. Fingers crossed they arrive this time!

0 to 100

All photos are screenshots from the 0 to 100 app on the iPad.

To my absolute delight, I discovered this app today. It contains 101 breathtakingly beautiful portrait photos of people of all ages between 0 and 100. Each single shot is more amazing than the next. So clear, so real, so beautiful...

Not only does the app allow you to see the truly exquisite portraits photographer Sandy Nicholson took of people in Australia and Canada, it also gives you the chance to read a quote from every single one of them, and to watch short videos from some of the participants. And there's even an amusing 'mix-and-match' section where you can create new faces by mixing existing ones.
If you don't have the chance to have an iPad yourself, you can see all the photos here, or buy the book!

This is definitely one of the best surprises I've had with apps on the iPad so far. And did I mention it's free? Aah... life is good...

Goodness

I'm so amazingly lucky to have a fiance who likes to cook, and who does it incredibly well. There are a few dishes that we have regularly, and this is one of them: spicy Thai chicken with cashews and basil, served with coconut rice. Mmmh... I love it!

Stockholm VIII

Our last evening in Stockholm...
We took the tram to the island of Djurgården and went for a walk in Gröna Lund Tivoli where we had a wonderful time watching nervous kids lining up for scary rides, teenagers running around in big groups eating candy floss, and parents pushing prams covered in huge boxes of chocolate they won in the many skills-testing stands spread all through the fairground. It was the very first day that the park was open to the public for the season and the atmosphere was festive - you could see that people were happy that summer was on its way.

We didn't hang around for too long though, and made our way back to a quieter spot to have dinner right by the water, looking across to
Östermalm, enjoying the sun all the way until it disappeared behind the grand looking buildings of the area, and wondering when we'd be able to come back to this wonderful city to see all the things we didn't manage to fit in our busy schedule.

Stockholm VII

Sunny Saturday afternoon in Södermalm. We happened upon a design school street market, and they had these adorable remote controlled robots that kids were running after. We didn't exactly understand what they were for, or what they represented, but the kids were having great fun!
We found our way to Pelikan for lunch. Yummy food and lovely atmosphere. And did you see the bottom of my glass? So cute!

Stockholm VI

A few shots from our beautiful sunny Saturday in Stockholm.
Our tunnelbana station (Thorildsplan).
A building close to the train station.
At the top of the copper-covered tower of the stadshuset.
And inside the stadshuset.
