New Norcia

Around 1850 a few very brave (and probably slightly crazy) monks left Spain to come to Australia to open a mission and 'take care' of Aboriginal children and families. Over the years they built a beautiful small monastic town, with strong Spanish architectural influence.
The heat was incredible on the day we were there, and it really made me realise how hard it would have been to start a town from scratch in such a remote place with such an inhospitable climate.

In the evening Mart's cousin Nell, her husband Kith and their adorable daughter Heloise came for a wonderful dinner (white fish, crushed potatoes and one of Lesley's amazing salads).
The perfect combination for our last evening in Fremantle!
